Insurance companies have expert investigators working on their side and are trained to looks for reasons to deny a claim. Some popular reasons for claim denial are "Damage was pre-existing" "Damage caused by poor or improper maintenance" or "Damage was not consistent with insured's statement". Insurance companies are also quick to say you were at fault and either surcharge you for the claim or simply not renew your policy.
A common misconception is that the insurance companies have the final determination, this simply isn't true. You are entitled to have your own expert review the damage and the reason for denial and challenge their findings in court. While most disputes with insurance companies will require an attorney, having the evidence reviewed by an expert is your first step in determining if you're on solid ground.
